18-1 Sun-dried bamboo
Sun-dried bamboo: Boil the madake (true bamboo) in hot water to remove its color and fat.
To find fibers suitable for filaments, Edison collected hair from men and women of different ages, and what he arrived at was the madake bamboo from Mount Otokuyama in Kyoto. He created prototypes using bamboo from around the world, but there was no material that surpassed the bamboo from Otokuyama. Today, a monument to Edison stands at the top of Otokuyama.
